Two women died Sunday at a church in Lexington, Kentucky, in a shooting rampage that began when a state trooper was wounded after making a traffic stop. The suspect in both shootings was also killed. Police say the tragedy began Sunday near Blue Grass Airport in Lexington when a state trooper stopped a car after receiving an alert from his automated license plate reader.  The suspect ambushed the trooper, shooting and wounding him as he walked up to the car. A Christian pastor is speaking out after claiming federal agents detained Iranian-born members of his congregation. Listen to the latest episode of “Quick Start”  Pastor Ara Torosian of Cornerstone Church in West LA, spoke with CBN News about the incidents, which unfolded last month and reportedly included authorities detaining an Iranian couple with their 3-year-old child; the family is reportedly seeking asylum. A Connecticut pastor who was carjacked while visiting Baltimore is thanking God for sparing his life.  Rev. Kenneth Moales Jr. of Bridgeport, Connecticut fought to survive after a 16-year-old held him at gunpoint while trying to steal his car.  Moales told WBAL-TV he was in Baltimore for a funeral and had parked his car outside a seafood restaurant to meet a local pastor.  As Moales was parking his wife’s Audi A6, the 53-year-old was approached in the pouring rain by a teenager at the driver-side window as though he had an emergency, the Connecticut Post reports.  Moales cracked the window…

The Internal Revenue Service says pastors may now freely discuss politics from the pulpit without losing their tax-exempt status. The move provides an exemption to the Johnson Amendment, a 70-year-old tax provision that forbids all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates.  The IRS has issued an exemption specifically for churches and other houses of worship. The agency made the statement in a Texas court filing as part of a settlement with two churches and the National Religious Broadcasters who are suing the IRS for violating their freedom of speech.  Many faith leaders generally approve of the filing.…

The people of Kerrville, Texas, are mourning the lives lost as they continue searching for victims of the catastrophic floods. At least 120 people are dead and 150 are missing. Volunteers from across the country are gathering together to help the grieving community. The Guadalupe River has returned to a dry, deceptive calm following the devastating July Fourth flash flood, but the anguish still lingers in Kerr County. “This is something that’s going to stay with this community forever,” said Pastor Phil Jackson of Kerrville First Assembly of God. A preacher who led a small Hispanic church in Florida has been deported to Guatemala after two decades on American soil. The 42-year-old immigrant is married with five children. Maurilio Ambrocio pastored the 50 members of Iglesia de Santidad Vida Nueva in Wimauma. He told the Tampa Bay Times he was one of the 100 Guatemalan immigrants deported from New Orleans through a charter flight after he was arrested in mid-April during a routine check-in at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Tampa.
